What is Microsoft’s fastest-growing commercial product ever? Doubtless, Office 365. Microsoft Office 365 is a Software that comprehends a great set of tools and apps. The main goal is to facilitate productivity, office documentation, communication, collaboration and management skills. Some examples are: Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Planner, Yammer, Skype for Business, SharePoint.

Today, after six years from its first release, Office 365 is now attracting more and more companies in every sector of the economy. Yet, the adoption of this software is not uniform across industries.

The graph below depicts the percentage of Office 365 (and the different apps) usage in various industries. It is clear that financial services firms have the highest rate of Office 365 usage, followed by technology, manufacturing and food services. Instead, the industries with the lowest level of Office 365 usage rate are energy, real estate, media and entertainment, healthcare. Despite the overall usage of the software, different industries and sectors, use different apps, differently.

What instead seems to be a common path in companies that adopted Office 365, is that despite the number of users, those who actively adopted and use regularly the tools is very low, as the graph here below demonstrates.

Indeed, when an organization or a company decide to migrate from the old software to the new one, several challenges have to be faced. Among those, the most important to consider is that just because the organization decided to migrate, does not mean that all employees will adopt, use and take advantages from the new technology.
